18 months ago I made a decision that will likely affect the rest of my life. It would definitely dictate how I spent the next 2 years. It was impulsive. It was irrational. It was downright crazy.

There’s a million ways you can make a difference, you just have to decide you want to be part of the solution.
This last week has been great. I experienced my first day touring with my work. We skinned to the top of a Park City peak on a beautiful bluebird day. I also had a great hike up Grandeur Peak after work that day. Excellent training. This was the first time I really put my Khatoola microspikes to work. However the best part of the week was getting the opportunity to tour one of The Christmas Box Houses.
It’s getting real. I applied for my PCT permit with a start date of 4/21/17. Less than 11 weeks left and there’s still so much to do. I need to decide how I’m getting to Campo, CA where the trail starts. I had a romantic notion of riding a train to So. Cal. Unfortunately, trains out west suck!
I had a chance to try out some new gear. I tested Outdoor Research’s Crocodile Gaiters and Kahtoola Microspikes on a hike up to Lake Blanche. It’s amazing how a few hours of tranquility and solitude can put my soul at ease.
Today I file for my PCT permit. OMG!!! This trip is approaching so quickly. It’s definitely becoming a primary focus as I think about preparations at least once a day…
